Imagine: It's been hot and dry for days and you're terribly thirsty. You've looked everywhere for water - but only found dry earth. And then suddenly there is a bulging irrigation bag on a tree in the middle of the garden. If you were a thirsty animal, what would you do in this situation?

We didn't expect irrigation bags to be eaten by rodents. But now that there are regular hot days and it is very dry for long periods of time, we are increasingly hearing about rodent damage to the bags.

Luckily, there is a very simple and efficient way to protect your bags from animal bites. And at the same time, you can also encourage life in your garden or other area you care for.

To keep thirsty animals from gnawing on your watering bags, you can offer them some water in a shallow bowl. By doing this, you are also doing something good for the animals in your garden. In the long term, everyone benefits. Because: Animals are roommates and helpers in our gardens. By the way, NABU also recommends this. For NABU ornithologist Stefan Bosch, clean and safe bathing and drinking places are essential for the survival of many animals.

Build a water trough in the garden

A Bathing and drinking areas for animals should be introduced in your garden easy and you don't need to buy anything. You can simply use a shallow bowl as a water trough. It's best to put it in a somewhat secluded and shady place. It is important that the animals feel safe there. You can also bury the bowl a little so that there is no protruding edge. It is also helpful, especially for small animals, if you equip the waterer with a piece of wood or a stone as a landing place. This is particularly important for insects such as bees, bumblebees or dragonflies. And who knows?ß: Maybe a hedgehog will visit your garden. And some birds will definitely take a refreshing bath in the waterer.

We recommend that you change the water in the waterer every day. If the water stands still for too long, it can become a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
