Norway spruce origin
The Norway spruce (Picea pungens), also known as the blue spruce, is native to the Rocky Mountains in the western United States. Its natural range extends from Idaho and Wyoming to Arizona and New Mexico. At elevations between 1800 and 3000 meters, it forms part of the mountain forest.
In Central Europe, the Norway spruce has been popular as an ornamental tree since the 19th century. It is particularly valued for its striking, blue-green to silver-blue needles and its regular, conical growth habit. It is hardy and frequently used in parks, gardens, and as a Christmas tree.
Norway spruce care and location
The Norway spruce prefers a sunny location. It is adaptable and thrives in a variety of soils, but prefers permeable, slightly acidic to neutral soils. Waterlogging should be avoided, as it is sensitive to wet roots.
- Plant it in a sunny location with enough space for its spreading crown.
- The soil should be well-drained and nutrient-rich.
- A layer of mulch helps retain moisture and protect the roots. The Norway spruce is frost-hardy and tolerates urban climates well.
Pruning Norway spruce
A regular Video editing is not required. If necessary, minor crown adjustments can be made in the summer. Simply remove dead or obstructive branches to maintain the natural shape.
Do you need to fertilize Norway spruces?
In nutrient-rich soils, no additional fertilization necessary. If necessary, some compost can be applied in spring. mulch layer made of organic material supports the nutrient supply and retains moisture in the soil.
Water your Norway spruce properly!
Young spruces require a uniform Water supply, especially during dry periods. The soil should always be moist, but not wet. baumbad watering bag offers an effective solution. It is placed around the trunk, filled with water, and slowly releases it into the soil. This optimally supplies the root zone, and the water penetrates deep into the soil without evaporation or runoff.
