Beech origin
The beech (Fagus) belongs to the beech family (Fagaceae) and is mainly found in the temperate climate zones of Europe, Asia, and North America. In Central Europe, the European beech (Fagus sylvatica) known as the dominant tree species in many forests.
Book care and location
Beeches prefer nutrient-rich, deep, and well-drained soils with a slightly acidic to neutral pH. They thrive best in partially shaded to sunny locations. Because beeches have a shallow root system, they are sensitive to prolonged dry periods and soil compaction. Adequate watering is therefore crucial, especially for young trees or during extended dry periods.
Cutting beech
Regular pruning is not necessary for beech trees. If the beech is to be grown as a hedge or in a specific shape, pruning in late summer or early autumn is recommended. Radical pruning should be avoided, as beech trees can react sensitively to heavy disturbances. Dead wood or branches that are growing unfavorably can be removed in winter.

Fertilizing beech
Fertilizing in spring with compost or horn shavings can support beech growth. In urban areas or on nutrient-poor soils, additional fertilization with potassium and phosphorus can help improve beech resistance to stress factors such as drought or pests.

Watering beech
Due to climate change, our regions are also getting hotter and drier. Many trees suffer from the extreme conditions. Depending on the location and the climate-related situation, more frequent watering than in previous years may be necessary.
Please note that the Watering trees There are a few things to consider:
- To ensure that the water can actually reach the root area, a lot of water should be given at once, ideally 75 – 100 liters of water in one watering.
- The water should be released as slowly as possible so the soil can absorb it. If the water is applied too quickly, it will run off the surface, as dry soil can only absorb a small amount of water. Therefore, we recommend using tree watering bags.
- The baumbad watering bags They release water drop by drop into the soil through small holes over a period of several hours. This ensures even soil moisture throughout the entire root zone, allowing the roots to absorb the water well.
- Attaching and filling the water bags is simple and straightforward. The bag is placed around the tree trunk like a jacket and zipped shut. Next, fill the watering bag with enough water so that, after further adjustment, no wrinkles remain in the lower area, and then allow it to fill. For trees with larger trunk diameters, multiple bags can also be zipped together.
- Once the water has drained through, the bag is removed and can be used for additional trees. This saves water, time, and money.
